NYC subway cars used to have leather straps for people w/o seats to hold on to-- thus riders where and still are called STRAP-hangers in NYC lexicon. today we have metal bars not leather straps ,, but the lexicon is still used.

And , again it is just a toothless MTA proposal to limit the un-limited -- very unlikely to happen. The MTA wants an uproar , so they can look nice when they do not do it.
But they are cutting back service here in NYC -- esp on late nite transit -- which as a musician who works late into the night is a pain for me

I really do not understand why you Mike let threads here fall into the gutter. How does that help a good public policy debate? What purpose does it serve? Entertainment for posters?
The whole post shows all the more reason why Musician -songwriters need full protection of ASCAP to protect song royalties. That is where many songwriting-musicians make their real $$.
Pro studio musicians do OK -- are they rich ,, no ,,,,,but they make more than 90 % of people who gig music in bars for a living. Studi guys in a union and get scale. But they do not need a strait jib , like bar band dudes do.
