430,000 in US and Canada. It sure sounds like a lot but in reality it really isn't. In Denmark, a country with 5.8 million citizens, a bad re-design of a local weather site (DMI.dk) caused it to nosedive to ~450.000 less daily users. 430k in US and Canada is almost outside measurement for Netflix.
I actually don't agree. Innocent until proven guilty should only be for those that isn't above the law. Here it isn't the officer who is above the law (as he will likely be punished) but the police and the justicesystem as a whole. This isn't "a man killing a teenager", this is a cop who is trained and hence the training is also to blame, otherwise this wouldn't happen again and again. IMO those that make the rules and train these cops are to blame for the killings, more so than the cop himself, as they should (and do!) know that the whole system behind the cop on the street has failed in training cops that are safe to let out with a gun.
It will be open to the new US government to protest this attack on democracy.
What democracy is under attack? The US's? Because Hong Kong isn't and wasn't a democracy so you can't protest attacks on "its democracy". It is "a devolved executive-led system within a socialist republic". So while you can protest what is happening please don't pretend that PRC is clamping down on a democracy. It is their own territory and they have the exact same amount of right to do what they do as the US has to do what it does against its protesters.
There are more than two people you can vote for at an election. Saying "both sides" is being part of the problem. "Both sides" are bad no matter if one is worse than the other. A pound of shit is still shit even if you throw it on a bigger pile of shit. Sure this wouldn't have happened if Clinton had won - but then we'd likely have thousands upon thousands of dead Iranian children on-top of the thousands of dead Iraqi children already on our conscience.
I'll bet that 9/10 commentating in here will have learnt shit all at the next election and yet again vote either on A) Plague or B) Cholera and not on C) A common cold.
"It has long been obvious that the only thing he cares about is himself -- and that he views everything through the lens of "does this person like me or not." He does not care about America. He does not care about its people. He cares about people who like him, and those storming the Capitol did so in his name, and he obviously loved it."
The above quote fits on every single US politician in the two big parties today. Some are just better at not showing their narcissistic or sociopathic side than Trump.
I don't really believe all the yelling, posturing or apologizing from neither one or the other side because I know for a fact that most (yes most of you commentators here too) will still vote for one of the two political parties that is ruining the US. In the end it is more important for people to be part of those that voted Democrats, Republicans or stayed at home than put your vote at someone who wants a real change. This time it was one side but the other is just as bad, just in a different way. If you are part of either Dem. or Rep. you are part of the problem.
To change the problem what needs to change is not the police but the entire system. The reason cops in Scandinavia behave differently isn't because humans are different in the US compared to Scandinavia. It is because the whole US system is catering to the bad apples, the greedy, the lazy and the rich. IMO what we see with cops is what we see in all American systems in general, from cops to judges, from garbageman to politicians. In short: It won't change as long as America is America.
Apple is doing a lot these days for "privacy". What most seem to miss is that what is actually going on is Apple closing down every avenue of data collection that isn't going though Apple's own ad service to force everyone's hand. It is an abuse of market-position and should be stopped. Apple is in no way more pro-privacy than for example Facebook or Google is. Yet since Apple have fans, not users, it is cool instead of scary.
I have no idea what CSV you are talking about. The site (did you click the link?) has a very nice overview of who requested what etc. incl. how many requests were and were not denied.
I know this will sound like pure socialism to most Americans but I'll write it anyways. My point with all this is at the end :)
Where I live (somewhere grey and cold in Scandinavia) the broadband (fiber to be precise) is seen as the same as the other utilities (water, sewer, electricity, heat), so the local utility company rolls out fiber either on its own or when they dig anyway. Everywhere gets fiber or empty cables if nothing/no-one is there yet and it doesn't cost anything to get fiber from the road and into your house (free from road to nearest wall + a few meters). The company is owned by the city and citizens run it (you get voted in). It is 100% non-profit so the prize for the roll-out of fiber is covered by the excess profit from the other utilities and no-one is paied huge bonuses. Other companies can supply internet-access on the network so it is not only the best but also the cheapest network around.
Of course it isn't perfect but slowly everyone gets access to broadband at a good price. You cannot compare prices directly from one country to another with the different taxes and all but if interested I pay US$45 for 1/1gigabit, (actual) unlimited, two IPv4 + IPv6, speed is guaranteed - not "up to".
My point with all this is simple: Where are the American politicians that want to Make America Great Again like Back In The Good Old Days? On the one hand the US is The Greatest Nation but on the other hand I keep reading stories about people like McDonald Trump and Ajit Pai.
A two-party system close on the spectrum, leaders and police above the law, in the pocket of the rich. Anyone still think the US is a democracy? In a democracy the outcome would be the same if the police stops Trump, Musk or a random poor black dude for drunk driving and their call to their representative would be equally important.
The EU court has ruled (twice) that it is illegal to log everyone's internet and phone use. You have to have a warrant from a judge per case. So GDPR is irrelevant.
The ruling is here (in PDF):
"The Court of Justice confirms that EU law precludes national legislation requiring a provider of electronic communications services to carry out the general and indiscriminate transmission or retention of traffic data and location data for the purpose of combating crime in general or of safeguarding national security"

How much is Google going to show of the news articles they link? 60 characters? 600? 6000?
/div>Re: Clean up your act or someone will do it for you
I'm amazed the police union is even called a union. It has more to do with the union that happens at/after a wedding than an actual Union.

Or give The US back to the Indians. That is actually a great idea. Gotta be in the hands of the British awhile first though.

..even if the games for PS5 becomes worse than the Xbox versions it can only be better than the buggy mess Bethesda releases now. So, win/win.

This is happening in other places already where the government refuses to comply and are getting sued. Here's one from Denmark:
