Yahoo Down for the Count for Three Hours

from the ouch dept

A bit of a surprise, as Yahoo has always been very good about these things. It seems that due to "sabotage" (or so Yahoo claims) most of Yahoo was down today for almost 3 hours. And, I thought it was just me. For some reason today my printer and my laptop broke, so I assumed that not being able to access Yahoo was just the continuation of a technology cursed day for me.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    You're telling me!

Today was the worst for me too...in the morning Yahoo was down (and I forward my 3 other email addresses to Yahoo mail nowadays...hmmm..will have to rethink that now I guess)...then for no apparent reason whatsoever MS SQL Server and the JDBC ODBC driver started acting up with mysterious "Function sequence errors"...looked on the web, and found out its still an unsolved mystery why this happens and how to fix it! Anyway, my day ended when my NT box froze up on me and (as usual) I rebooted and got a coke in the meanwhile (as usual). However, it wouldnt let me log back in now, saying my passwords bad!!! So there I gave up and headed home.

Maybe some karmic retribution to those of us who made fun of the Y2K naysayers is hitting us now. :)
