White House claims innocence

from the Not-everything-is-a-conspiracy dept

The White House is claiming it was simply an accident that it lost a good chunk of email sent from outside parties. I tend to think that they wouldn't be lying about something like this. First and foremost nothing all that earth-shattering would be sent through standard email, with no encryption or security to begin with. Let's face it, it's not rocket science to monitor an unsecured stream of data, regardless of where it's going. Second, shit happens. I lost an entire volume of data yesterday. Does that mean I was trying to hide something from the CNET executives? Doubtful...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Coverup

Losing the email was an accident. Discovering the accident and not revealing it (and threatening contractors with jail if they did) *is* a coverup.

John Deutch, former director of the CIA, regularly kept Top Secret data on his laptop, which he also used to connect to the internet.

And they're not even looking for Top Secret data. It would be enough to find inconsisties in their stories. That alone could result in perjury charges for many of the principals. Included in the missing email is, supposedly, correspondence between Miss Lewinsky and Miss Curie.

If there really is email between Lewinsky and Curie, I say all the better that it was erased.
