Time Warner to Launch iPublish

from the more-ebooks dept

Time Warner seems to be moving in a big way towards eBooks. I do think this is a good thing, but it will be very interesting to see how it all works out. I'm still not convinced that eBooks are the way to go. My guess is there will be a small community who are very into it, and maybe one or two authors will become popular - at which point they'll be published as print authors. Then there will be all sorts of articles about those lucky authors. To some extent, eBooks may act as a "minor league" of authors. The good thing, though is that such a major player has decided to really get involved. I wonder how much AOL had to do with this decision... Update: Here's another story about how Microsoft is moving forward in this arena as well with deals with Simon & Schuster and Barnes & Noble.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
