Am I Hot Or Not?

from the it's-good-to-see-useful-ideas-still-appearing-on-the-internet dept

Oh boy. So, I'm sure this site will be making all the weblog rounds this week, but Salon has an article about AmIHotOrNot.com. The site allows people to put up their pictures and have people trash them. Yeah, sounds like a wonderful service for trashing people's fragile egos. Anyway, as of this posting the actual site is down with the following error message: "Sorry, the site is down for a few hours. We didn't expect so many visitors! We're moving the server right now, so check back in a few hours (or tomorrow). And don't complain, its already midnight and I haven't even had dinner yet! ;)".

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Not so new...

This is not a new concept. The internet's foundation is basically porn. This is just the tip of the iceberg, my friend...

Very addictive stuff! I should it to some of my co-workers and before I knew it several of them were hooked on it, I guess fads on the internet have the ability to spread faster than they do offline.
