Build Your Own Internet Radio
from the do-it-yourself dept
A nice little article talking about a guy building his own "internet radio" and what that could mean for the future of internet radio. I definitely think there's potential, but it's got a long way to go. Right now it's still too complex and annoying for most of the population to bother with. Until it reaches the same simplicity of the regular radio, it's not going to be a huge success. The article does get one point wrong, by the way. It claims that Kerbango hasn't set pricing or a release date, but evidence suggests otherwise. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure who would pay $300 for a more annoying, and less user friendly radio.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: techdirt radio
The one guy who had all the equipment (including some I borrowed from others) at last check had suddenly (and for no clear reason) moved 400 miles away (with the equipment). Sooooo... we'd still like to do it, but we really need to figure out a time and place.
If anyone happens to have a nice recording studio in the SF Bay Area they'd like to let us use for free... that would be cool. Contact us.
