A Whole Whack Of Cable

from the gimme-my-high-speed-connections dept

Ryan writes "Two stories here - one Canadian and one American. Time Warner and EarthLink have just signed a major deal that will let EarthLink provide Internet access over Time Warner's up and coming cable systems. TW actually has numerous ISPs testing the system now in Columbus, Ohio, but EarthLink is the first major provider. North of the 49th (parallel, that is), the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is considering deeming high-speed internet access an essential service (regulating it). Even today, high speed costs a max of $50CDN (~$32US). Apparently, the two biggest providers aren't living up to all their promises, with outages lasting for hours, even days at times. Whether regulation will fix the problem is another question."

    Many digits

Very interesting view from the canadian side their Ryan. It still seems a bit weird having a digital twin.

I'm starting to understand why the slashdot guys changed their names. It was probably for clarity (rather than a cool nerdy name as I first thought) as very few people can probably distinguish me from the other digital Ryan. Any other Ryan's out there?

    Re: Other Ryan's

Well, to any techdirt readers out there who don't already know.... The real first name of mhh5 is... Mike. The other Mike pointed out to me that I'm the only non-first-name-basis story-poster. Don't ask me what mhh5 is supposed to mean....

mhh5 is lying. mhh5 is actually a robotic software program that Dennis and I created to post to Techdirt on occasion. So far it's been a runaway success. I can't tell you what MHH stands for 'cause that's a secret, but I can tell you that 1-4 really sucked.

    Re: Other Ryan's

I knew you and Dennis were cooking up a little artificial intelligence software program the other start-up was just a front ;)

It's great now I know that there are at least 2 other Ryans and 2 Mikes. When are we getting more, Brian's, Prash's and Dennis's. I'm going to pick up a six pack of Ryan's soon

    Re: Other Ryan's

mhh5 is not programmed to lie. Uh, I mean, mhh5 is a real person, dammit. I'm not some AI that has plans to take over the world. Forget I even said that. I said forget it. If you don't, I'll sick mhh6 on you.
