Honda To Rent Out Novelty Robot

from the business-models... dept

Last month Honda showed off their new humanoid robot. This month, they're announcing their strategy for making money off the robot. Signing it up to do actual work? No way. They're going to rent it out for events and parties as a novelty item. Glad to see all that research went into creating a useful robot that will wander around at fancy parties.

    Hustling Honda

I think it's great that Honda's willing to do anything to make money off of its robots, companies should hustle more often (maybe it would help some dot com employees to realise that if it makes money then it isn't beneath them!)

    same stuff, different pile?

Honda's next project - AI for parties. Now you can listen to a robot's monotone voice chatter at you at a party instead of that boring coworker's! I do hope that this isn't the direction that robotics take, though I most certainly understand that if they are accepted as normal playthings, then it'll be much easier to integrate them in other places.
