Dave Matthews And Technology
from the he's-everywhere dept
I'll admit I don't think I even know a single Dave Matthews song, so I have no idea whether or not he's any good. However, I did find it odd that two totally seperate news organizations are running two totally separate stories of Matthews involvement with technology. First, is an MSNBC report about how the Dave Matthews Band will be running a promotion on Napster which was set up by the band without the knowledge of its label (who have decided not to challenge the move). Matthews claims that they did it because badly recorded versions of the song were already on Napster, and they thought this might help more people hear their music and maybe buy the album. Over at Techweb, there's an even more interesting article about how the Dave Matthews Band road crew uses a wireless intranet during concerts. It's a custom built solution using Wavelan and Airport devices.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
