Rewriting History Accenture Style

from the a-hefty-task dept

I just received an email from folks at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) saying that they're surfing the entire web looking for any references to Andersen Consulting and asking that they be changed to Accenture. This seems like a huge waste of time and effort. Anyway, considering that any reference to Andersen Consulting in a Techdirt posting was a news item which was about about Andersen at the time it happened, I'm not making any changes. I just thought it was amusing that they're making this request. Full text of the email is below.Andersen Consulting becomes Accenture
As you may know, the company formerly known as Andersen Consulting has renamed itself to Accenture. The New Media team has the monumental task of identifying and changing all references to Andersen Consulting on the World Wide Web.

We need your help!
We ask that you join us in strengthening our new brand by changing all Andersen Consulting references to Accenture and redirecting all links to our new website, www.accenture.com. Please use our accenture.com rebranding toolkit for instructions on updating your website. The toolkit can be found at: www.accenture.com/rebranding

Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this exciting change for our organization.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Andersen Consuilting

I think that we ought to mention the former Andersen Consulting as many times as we possibly can in all kinds of postings. The CFKAAC deserves all it gets for picking a really sucky name that can;t even be rendered properly in most typefaces!!

    Re: Andersen Consuilting

Changing their name to Accenture (whatever) is not a good idea. Unfortunately for them they are taking all of their name recogintion and throwing it out the door. Duh.

They had to change the name after the lawsuit with Arthur Andersen.

Just take a look at the dates of these original comments! They, obviously, knew something we didn't and wanted to distance themselves from the Andersen name. They just won a contract from AT&T, the co. I work for...5 yrs, 8 billion and they've laid off about 2000 people. Personally, we've been doin' alright for over 100 yrs! Do we really need to "consult" with anybody?
