Rob Glaser Against Microsoft

This week's Business Week's cover story is a profile of Real Networks' Rob Glaser. It's a really interesting profile, that tries to show exactly what makes him tick. The backdrop of the entire article is the fight between Real and Microsoft to control the streaming media business. However, the profile of Glaser really looks at his background and what made him who he is. They also talk about his infamous temper, and the extremely mixed work environment he has set up at Real (he built a bowling alley in the basement for employees, but he seems to have a habit of screaming and cursing at them and throwing cans of diet Coke at them). There's also a little bit of psychological analysis as they talk about his relationship with Bill Gates, and how a lot of this is to try to win the approval of his former mentor.

Glaser set an abysmal tone for the company and while he may be smart and he may win the battle with Microsoft, I have absolutely no respect for someone who treats others like inferior beings unworthy of their own thoughts.
