eBay Sellers Angry At Charities Auctions
from the I-think-eBay-sellers-need-to-calm-down dept
It seems that eBay can do no right by their sellers. Every time they try to do anything, the current sellers get angry about how it's going to destroy them. The latest is a move by eBay to allow some sellers to donate some of their earnings to the Red Cross for the WTC tragedy victims. However, people who earn their living off of eBay, say that it creates unfair competition against people who can't afford to donate to the Red Cross. I'm just amazed that any of these sellers use eBay at all. All they seem to do is complain.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

A good thing, leave it to the eBay users to ruin i
of course it doesn't surprise me that those big cheiftans are the ones probably complaining.
this is a good thing, really. for society. i think its a wonderful fad, hope it becomes a trend. imagine if companies could differentiate themselves by the charities with which they share their profits. by the goodwill that they bring others through their sharing vs. differentiation through price alone, or by the fact that they deploy advertising tactics which exploit others.
about eBay, as a freemarketeer and extreme capitalist, I am somewhat disillusioned with its move away from a free marketplace. it seems to be getting more and more regulated. this is not good i think. it should steer clear of politics and opinion.
