More On Brain Fingerprinting

from the not-the-most-scientific-of-solutions dept

Ah, thanks to the Register for ripping apart most of the brain fingerprinting idea. I didn't know much about it when I posted the story yesterday, but the Register points out that it's wonderful success record is on a very small sample size and then brings up all the privacy/civil liberties questions that should go along with such a system. Plus, they've got a great animated gif to go along with the story. That makes it all worthwhile.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Recognizable Images

Once they've shown you the images that “only a terrorist would recognize”, won’t you recognize them the next time you see them? Will I be jailed as a terrorist if I fly twice in the same week?

      ROTFL

Now that IS funny. What are the chances of a suicide bomber recognising the scene of his last crime? Truly a stupid system.

      Re: Recognizable Images

The images you see that relate to the specific purpose of the test are not identified when you take the test. You see many images, some that are relevant and some that are not. Presumably, only those images that you recognize will stimulate a response in your brain.
