Microwaving People

from the forget-the-mail... dept

Not quite sure what to make of this one. We were just talking about microwaving the mail to get rid of anthrax, and now suddenly we've moved up to microwaving people to get crowds to disperse. Something about this sounds very dangerous. Forget tear gas and police with batons. Let's just fry the crowds. We already killed the fourth amendment today, we're a bit questionable on the "freedom of speech" part in the first amendment, so why not kill the "right to assembly" part as well?

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    chill out

    Hey man,

You seriously need to chill. Our rights are still intact. I think that what they passed was just fine, and in fact, could have gone further. These guys are after people who have come here on visas and overstayed their welcome, not citizens who abide by the law. And besides, the House required the Sunset provision so that all of these powers expire in four year's time. I'm sure that, depending on the situation, the FBI will probably want to renew these new powers after that time, but honestly, I don't think it is going to infringe upon Citizen's liberties.

Just my $0.02 on the whole thing....

If you think these 'powers' will be used just on 'suspected terrorists' you are a fool.
