Oh Crap, There Goes My Broadband

from the uh-oh dept

Mike Lohse writes "CNET is reporting that Friday may be more appropriately called Black Friday for Excite@Home customers. The article reports that Excite@Home may be pulling the plug on cable internet subscribers. Bummer of a birthmark, Hal. Serious bummer for those of us who enjoy and depend on the service (and didn't have to wait 3-4 weeks for installation). Let's hope AT&T comes to bail the Scooby Mystery van out." Lovely. I am, of course, in the same boat - as I use AT&T@Home. I've only had the service for a few weeks. I knew I never should have trusted AT&T when they told me they had "contingency" plans should this happen.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

It was a weird news release. Sounded like a scare tactic. But you never know. Time for 4 million people to dust of their 56k modems, just in case...Time for that annoying screetching modem sound again, LOL
