Alex writes "Apparently fed up with the refusal of Ukrainian parliament to pass a law, requiring licensing CD manufacturing, United States imposed $75M worth of sanctions on Ukraine. That means that US would refuse to buy $75 worth of stuff (including metals, textiles, footwear, etc.) that so far has been coming from Ukraine. Local lobbyists heavily criticized U.S. position on this issue, implying that US companies are out to kill the CD production in Ukraine as an industry. Of course, no event like this would be ignored by good ole RIAA who issued a press-release, fully supporting US government decision." By the way, that second link is in a language which I'm guessing is Russian, which I don't speak... My attempt at using Babelfish to translate it failed, so I have no idea what it says, but I'll trust Alex on this one.

In the opinion of participants in the press conference, the adoption of the project of law in the current editorial staff, presented by government, will provoke the crash of the legal sector of the production of compact- disks in the Ukraine. Among its main disadvantages they were named: the rigid/hard mechanism of the control of production from the side of state, " draconic " penalties for disturbance/breakdown of law (10 thousand not taxed by tax minimums), existence of organization- monopolist, to which they will charge the delivery of licenses to the production of compact- disks. The representatives of plants expressed the interest in the adoption of the project of the law, proposed by the profile committee, which, in their opinion, it will make it possible to create the actually effective mechanism of fight with the audiovisual piracy. As it became known, on Friday on 14 December, on the request of the office of ministers the legislators nevertheless withstood the examination of bill on 20 December.

Sanction them and other countries for spam
Now I do NOT support RIAA for their unrealistic stance on fair use. I should be able make copies of the disks that I buy, but I should not be allowed to sell them.
