Inside Ion Storm
from the pretty-stormy dept
An obituary of sorts from someone who worked at Ion Storm. The guy, a childhood friend of John Romero, write a typical "insider's perspective" saying that while things definitely went wrong, they didn't deserve all the crap they got from the gaming world. I understand the desire to hit back and yell at folks who made his life hell, but it reads much more bitter (and whiney) than it needs to be. It's clear that the writer didn't have much influence at Ion Storm, but from the sound of the article it feels like he did nothing there at all. It would be much more interesting to take a look at what really went wrong rather than just complaining about all the attention that was focused on Ion Storm.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Too bad the game just sucked. All the controversy would have been overlooked and forgiven if the game had been 1/4 as good as it was hyped to be.
