Recipe For The Next Silicon Valley

from the not-so-easy dept

Wired has an article about how to create a new Silicon Valley where they talk to the author of Cloning Silicon Valley to figure out what ingredients go into a Silicon Valley recipe. I have some problems with the idea of recreating a Silicon Valley, because it always seems to involve too much direction from above - and not enough of just letting things evolve. I'd say that most places today that are trying to recreate Silicon Valley may miss the next big thing, because it won't seem to fit in with what they think a Silicon Valley should focus on.

I hope they wire it for...

I hope they wire it for broadband. What about the road traffic as well. A perfect clone would be a disaster.

They have a long way to go.

There seems to be a perception the SV. has just sprung up in the last 10 years. This is not so. In reality it has been going in one form or another since the 1960's (to my knowlege). Basically, each "generation" has built on the foundation of the previous one. SV was not built - it evolved.
