The Cyborg Family

from the publicity-stunts-r-us dept

Ugh. If the Register has been having fun with Kevin Warwick, aka "Captain Cyborg" for always wanting to implant microchips in himself, they should have a blast with the family described in this Wired article. It seems that the whole family wants to be the first family to have the new VeriChip implanted in themselves, as soon as it's approved by the FDA. It's actually a bit freaky reading about the family, because they seem so gullible. If they didn't exist, the company that makes the chip would probably have to invent them. There's the 14-year-old son who wants the chip because "it's cool" (he seems to be confusing "scary, big brotherish, and effectively useless" with "cool"). The father wants the chip because he thinks it could save his life in a medical emergency (he's making the huge assumption that hospitals and medical personnel will have systems to read the chip - he might be better off just carrying around his medical insurance card like the rest of us). The mother is simply the poster woman for the new, "safer" America. She says, "I have nothing to hide, so I wouldn't mind having the chip for verification." Perhaps she's somehow related to John Ashcroft? This all smells of a huge publicity stunt.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

In the book of revelations, the Bible states that in the end of times (before the coming of the Lord), crime and every other sin would go out of control. It also states that the MARK OF THE BEAST would be inserted in the right hand or on the forehead. There's no second guessing on the truth that the VERICHIP is in fact the mark of the beast. I mean, look around you-Could it be any worse-Crime and sin wise? The Bible also mentions in the book of Matthew 24:24 that in the end of times false prophets would arise to persuade people with great signs and wonders (with the Verichip) as it is being promoted. (read the whole chapter) The VERICHIP "will bring crime down," etc. Can man do such thing as make he world a better place? Or is it in God's hands and will for man to repent and convert? Jesus LOVES YOU and is waiting for you with open arms. He's been waiting for you. Ask Jesus to come in your heart today and tell Him you repent from all sins and to come in to your heart.
