Slate Tricked Into Publishing Stories Of A Non-Existant Auto Exec

Online magazine, Slate, has apologized today for publishing what they believed were stories from a executive at a large automobile firm in their "Diaries" section. It turns out that the stories were faked. It appears Slate did little to check into the background of the guy. He sent one email (which they now say had forged headers) from the auto company, and then asked that all future correspondence go through his AOL account to keep work and private emails separate. I think it's good to see that Slate is confessing to screwing up. Also, while they've taken the stories down from the Diary section, they've reposted them elsewhere as fictional stories.
