$40 For A Volume Control Knob

from the sign-me-up dept

Apparently the new computer accesory fad that everyone must get is a huge volume control knob that costs $40. Seems a bit extreme? Apparently it has flashing colors, though, and that seems to be the thing that attracts most buyers ("ooh, look at the pretty colors..."). It can also be programmed to do other tasks within certain programs, and I can see how it could be useful in some cases as a jog dial type of device. However, most people seem to just use it as a huge pulsating volume control. They quote someone saying, "it's incredibly useless, I use it every day." Sounds like my kind of toy.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Yep!

Saw these things demoed at MacWorld, they might actually be useful for some things. Looks like you can use them as a jog dial for video editing, which given the cost of video editing for some people, 40$ is basically free and any improvement to scanning through the video is probably welcome.

    I want 3!
