Semel Yells At Former Colleagues
from the when-will-they-wake-up? dept
Well, at least one entertainment exec seems to get the basics of the opportunity that the internet holds for the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, he's switched sides and joined the "evil" tech industry that is working so hard to destroy the entertainment industry. That's right, former Warner Brothers head, and now Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel, pointed out that entertainment execs have been dragging their feet in embracing the internet. It sounds like I'm just repeating what I've been saying for years here, but it's good to hear a former entertainment industry exec seem to understand. He points out that they all knew the internet posed a challenge - but they never did anything about it. Instead, they just cry to Congress for more protection.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Kinda true
It would be even better if a current entertainment industry exec seemed to understand. Like most people in the technology / entertainment industry, I'm sure Terry does what's good for Terry right now...
