Ads.com To Take On AdCritic

from the fight!-fight!-fight! dept

A lot of people have been upset since the shutdown of AdCritic.com and were happy to hear that at least they got bought by AdAge and were going to relaunch. However, it seems that a new site, Ads.com has beaten them to the punch and has launched their own ad site. They have a deal with ABC to show a bunch of commercials that run on ABC. They also claim that they're going to make money and are much better than AdCritic - because they're not just about showing the ads. They're also going to let advertisers pitch additional products and provde more info about what they're advertising. Finally, they're going to provide data to advertisers about which ads people like and what they like about them. Of course, AdCritic tried these business models themselves and never got anywhere. The article also points out that the folks from AdCritic are gearing up for their relaunch, and say they're not concerned about Ads.com since they've already got the brand name. I think a little competition may be healthy. Actually, I don't think that at all, but I think it will be cool to have the commercials online again.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
