2,500 Messages In One Month
from the damn dept
About two weeks ago SprintPCS finally got their act together and figured out how to let their customers send text messages to people using other carriers. So, I've finally joined the text messaging revolution, and I'm finding that I end up sending quite a few messages. However, it's still a bit surprising to hear that a teenager in the UK managed to send out 2,500 SMS text messages in one month. The teen's father, who had the ridiculously large phone bill faxed to him (the bill was 38 pages long), has forbidden the son from texting any more. There are two great quotes. First the father, saying, "I just don't know how he could keep awake to send out so many messages." Then, the kid explaining the addiction: "I was texting so much my hand hurt at the end of the day, but I thought it was great fun. Now I've learned my lesson."Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
