What Is The Public Domain?

from the it-seems-to-be-disappearing dept

What if you wanted to put things into the public domain? It seems that people don't know what to do with public domain information. It's too free, and too open. They're confused by the freedom and want more legalese to understand what they can do with the information. This article looks at the issues related to putting stuff into the public domain, and how it's a very murky area. This is, of course, the confusion that the Creative Commons folks are trying to clear up (the article describes what they're working on near the end).

hmmm.... wasn't this story posted on Slashdot today? Seems kind of redundant to just post every single story they post.

I don't read slashdot either. I for one appreciate most of the stories posted here.

I don't read slashdot anymore, mostly because I got tired of the constant AC sniping and trolling, a perfect example of which you thoughtfully provided.
