Want To Work In Wireless? Move To California

from the the-wireless-state dept

With all the talk about wireless companies lately, I had noticed that there wasn't a specific geographic location that people often considered the "home" of wireless. A new study, though, says that California has (by far) the largest number of wireless related companies, follwed by Texas. Southern California (LA/San Diego) have the most wireless companies by region, but Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area) has raised the most money for its wireless companies.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    No Subject Given

Wow, what a surprise! I never thought that the second largest US state - and first in population - would have the most wireless companies. Thanks for the enlightenment!

I realize this is a troll... but, California doesn't lead all states in the number of companies in all industries. Which is, of course, what your post is implying.

There was no reason to believe that California had to be the leading state in terms of wireless companies. This study is interesting because it gives some numbers to support this.

Yeah, but California is the tech hub of the country. Hands down. Not even close. So it's incredibly obvious that Calif. could have the most wireless companies. It's like saying, Texas has the most oil companies. Or Kansas has the most farms. Patently obvious stuff here. zzzzzzzzzzzz

So, why yell at us? Why not contact Reuters, USA Today and all the other places that wrote the story in the first place?

The fact is, I found it interesting. I decide what articles I put up here... and so, it goes up. I still find it interesting.

You, however, are beginning to get very boring.

What I read there is that a migration has been taking place. Sort of a wireless black hole that sucks in companies due to the talent mass which increases the talent mass which sucks in more companies.
Our company is pure wireless/fiber optic infrastructure and few of our customers are in California. We don't even have a salesman based there (Seattle is closest). Again, we deal with building the networks (towers, antenna, shelters, etc).
I wonder what percentage of the total is attributable to California import companies. No actual manufacturing or engineering. Just purchasing and sales.
