It Doesn't Have To Be The Shoes
from the who-needs-technology dept
I remember it wasn't so long ago that kids were demanding their parents buy them the latest crazy new sneakers that cost ridiculous amounts of money. The big thing those days was to add crazier and crazier technology to sneakers (I stopped paying attention when they added airpumps). However, with the current backlash against technology in general, it seems to have affected the sneaker-buying public as well. Many kids are deciding they don't want technologically enhanced sneakers and would prefer simpler "retro" sneakers. I knew if I kept my old sneakers around long enough, I'd be hip again...Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

good
Last time I went to The Athlete's Foot I couldn't find a single object that looked like a shoe (besides the sign). I ended up ordering a 'normal' pair of shoes off the internet, which isn't really optimal.
I will be glad to be able to buy my boring sneakers at the mall again.
