EarthLink's New Software Blocks Pop Ups

from the smart-move dept

EarthLink has been running ads for a while now saying that they have spam filters are part of their offerings in order to attract customers away from other ISPs. Now they're going one step further by introducing pop-up killing software as part of their package. They're going to be running an ad campaign (not using pop ups, I assume - though, that could be effective in a really annoying way...) around this notion. I think this is a great move by EarthLink. It's nice to see a company doing something that take an annoyance away from their customers, rather than adding extra annoyances in an attempt to squeeze more money out of them. Companies should learn to make money by making their customers' lives easier - and not by throwing unnecessary roadblocks in their face.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

EarthLink's New Software Blocks Pop Ups

If they stop spamming their customers, I'd be happy.

PS: The Forbes link has a pop-under. Sheesh!
