Did Einstein Test Hot Stove/Pretty Girl Hypothesis?
from the interesting-pickup-line... dept
Albert Einstein apparently once uttered "When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute and it's longer than any hour. That's relativity." This was one attempt to explain relativity to the layperson. However, being a scientific minded guy, he apparently (according to Scientific American - and, yes, my first thought was to check to see if we were anywhere near April 1) decided to test that hypothesis by sitting on a hot stove until it "felt" like an hour, as well as talking with a pretty girl until it felt like a minute. Whether or not the story is true, it's pretty damn funny. I wonder if this works as a pickup line for pretty women... "Hey, baby, want to prove Einstein's theory of relativity with me?" Hmm. Nah, probably not.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
