PowerPoint In The Classroom Is Just Too Easy
from the substituting-flash-for-content dept
One of the biggest problems that business presenters discovered when PowerPoint became the standard way to give any sort of presentation a few years back was that all the bells and whistles made it easy to create really really bad presentations that were full of annoying PowerPoint features instead of useful content. It seems that PowerPoint is starting to catch on in schools, as teachers use it to put together lessons - and they're discovering the exact same thing. Just because you can put together a fancy lesson plan via PowerPoint, it doesn't mean it will be any good. There will always be people, however, who can't get beyond the bells and whistles - and who simply can't put together a good presentation. Over time, though, I think most people will grow out of it, and learn what makes a good presentation (whether for business or for education) isn't the flash - but the content.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
