The Hydrogen Economy

Last week we spoke about air-powered cars, and now we've moved on to hydrogen powered cars. Salon is running an interview with Jeremy Rifkin, author of Hydrogen Economy, a book about hydrogen power. The interview discusses new hydrogen fuel-cell powered cars, that act as energy generators as well - so that once you're back at home, instead of recharging the car, like an electric vehicle, the car can then be used to charge up your house. Rifkin pictures a world where everyone becomes both a buyer and seller of energy (time for a P2P hydrogen exchange, anyone?). Definitely an interesting read, though, I'm always a little skeptical about "wonder" solutions that appear to solve everything.

CORPORATE CONTROL.I'M FOR HYDROGEN MYSELF,BIT I'M AGAINST RIFKIN BECAUSE HE GOES ABOUT IT THE WRONG WAY.NORMALLY,RIFKIN SHOULD BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE GOVERMENT,FORCING THEM TO ENACT LAWS THAT WOULD ALLOW HYDROGEN TO SUCEED JUST LIKE HE DID WHEN THE BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY WANTED TO CONDUCT FIELD TESTS OF THEIR PRODUCTS.THE REASON RIFKIN DOESN'T DO THIS IS BECAUSE HE WON'T DO ANYTHING THAT'S GOING TO GET HIM IN TROUBLE WITH THE PEOPLE.HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORKERS AT THE OIL COMPANIES LOSING THEIR JOBS
