Eyes In The Back Of Your Mouth
from the wherever-you-want dept
I remember, when I was much younger reading a novel about a fighter plane that could respond to the pilot's thoughts, so that the pilot and the plane almost became a single thinking unit. It seems that the opposite may be happening as research is being done to feed all sorts of information about how a plane is acting directly into the brain by adding tactile information into the pilot's flightsuit. So, if the plane banks to the left, they may feel a buzz in their shoulder. The article talks about
similar ways to wire more input information into the brain that could do things like allowing blind people to "see" by inputting data through their tongue. Of course, there's no indication just how far along this technology really is, or how well it really works. I have to admit, though, that this reads more like a Wired article from back when they started.
