Snowbound Shoppers Hit The Web

from the go-get-'em dept

As the weather reports from back east made it clear to me that I got back to northern California just in time to avoid the first big snow storm of the year, comes reports that all those people stuck at home in the snow decided to go online and do some holiday shopping. Popular items seemed to include winter gear. No one doubts that many people are going online this year for their gift buying, but I wonder if there really is anything to the idea that the weather has an impact on online shopping? I would imagine it's just one of many factors that influences where people decide to buy their goods. The real impact on this is probably just the timing. People who were bored at home figured they might as well use the time for something semi-productive.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    On-Line Shopping

Seems to me all I get is "not available online, try direct store pickup". I strongly suspect most larger stores are using this as a ploy to get shoppers into stores anyway they can. It ain't working on this redneck!
