Who Says You Can't Have Explosions And Relationship Building?
from the it's-all-about-the-story dept
Jimmy Guterman's latest column at Business 2.0 looks at the question of whether or not the Sims Online is the anti-Grand Theft Auto when it comes to video games. Some people are saying that the two are virtual opposites, since one is about building relationships and one is about destroying things. He points out, first of all, that the Sims Online isn't necessarily about building relationships, and GTA isn't necessarily about destroying things. In the end, both games have good stories that involve people. That's what makes them enjoyable, and that's what makes them sell.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: Predictable
Anyway, I'll say the same thing I said then: if you don't like the site, don't come here. Plenty of people seem to like it.
Also, the site was never intended to post "obscure" news sources. I never said it would. I also think that, on the whole, the site does get a good variety of different sources, and acts as a filter for them so you don't necessarily have to visit all those sites yourself.
Finally, the reason many of the news stories come from those sites is because they're good. I'm checking a ton of different news sources every day, and these are the ones that consistently have the best stories.
But, you know all that already, don't you. If you don't like, don't come here.
