Some Free-Shipping Offers Not So Free

from the all-you-do-is-complain... dept

The last few times I've ordered stuff from Amazon, I've used their free shipping option. It seems great. However, people are always looking for reasons to complain. Some people apparently weren't all that happy with all the free shipping offers available online the past few months. They thought there were too many restrictions and ended up paying for shipping after being "lured" to the sites with promises of free shipping. I don't really see how they have much of a right to complain, since it is a free thing, after all. Amazon, especially, makes the conditions very clear. The guy in the article who complained said it would take 2 extra days, but in my experience the free shipping still gets to me within a couple of days anyway.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I love the free shipping. As you said it takes about the same time for me as the regular shipping.

And I'm sure Amazon loves it when I add a couple of extra items to my order in order to reach the $25 free shipping threshold.

    Amazing

I find it staggering that people will pay $10 for shipping in order to avoid paying $5 in taxes.

    Someone needs a cluestick.

Amazon is really padding their shipping days too. When you checkout it gives you a ship date 5-7 days out - yet the product is usually at my door before the original estimated ship date. Under promise and over deliver works every time!
