Buy Your Evidence On eBay - Part II

Last July we had the story of lawyers buying evidence for asbestos cases on eBay. The article made it seem like a "trend", but most people had never heard about it, other than the one lawyer they focused on. Now, Law.com has tracked down that exact same lawyer, Mark Lanier, to find out about his eBay spending habits. It seems that he spends quite a bit of time and money making sure that he wins all sorts of asebestos-related auctions. He's not above sniping an auction at the last minute, if he knows he'll be around to make the bid. He mentioned that lately it seems like he's bidding against other lawyers for some of the products since the prices have been going up. Of course, that might have something to do with (1) all the successful lawsuits he's used the evidence in and (2) the news articles about his eBay experiences. At the end of the article, though, they suggest that Lanier's eBay addiction goes beyond just buying evidence for trials. He seems to buy all sorts of things for his personal life from eBay as well, and describes it as the "dreamer's supermarket." Perhaps eBay ought to contact him about licensing that slogan. If they steal it, I'm sure he'd just sue them with evidence that he bought on eBay...
