Pornographers' Plan To Stop Online Kiddie Porn
from the a-good-housekeeping-seal? dept
It seems that "regular" pornographers are trying their best to get rid of child pornographers because they believe that the child pornographers give the whole industry a bad reputation. However, the latest proposal by the porn industry is unlikely to do very much. The plan is to create a "good housekeeping"-type seal of approval that pornographers can put on their website to show that the site has been reviewed and does not have any child porn. Now, assuming that child pornographers are not the most ethical bunch (not a very big stretch, I imagine), what is going to stop them from just swiping a copy of the seal and putting it on their own sites? This doesn't seem like the most effective plan. Though, it would be amusing to be the person in charge of hiring people to be the "analysts" to review porn sites in order to give them that seal of approval. What sort of qualifications would you need?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
