TV Show With Built-In Advertising Planned
from the makes-sense dept
To be honest, I'm really surprised that this idea hasn't shown up much sooner. With all the fears about TiVo users skipping commercials, I was wondering why no one had put together a show like the ones from back in the 50s where the advertisers and sponsors were built directly into the show. It turns out that I wasn't the only one who thought of it. Mike Davies, who created Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, is creating a new variety show without any commercials, but with lots of product placement. There will be sets that actively promote products, as well as skits about specific products. I do wonder, though, how well such a show will do. It seems that, these days, people are less thrilled about being openly advertised to. In a cynical culture, people might find such overt incorporation of sponsorship and ads to be overdone.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
