Amazon Chief Survives Helicopter Crash In Texas

from the big-news-that-wasn't dept

theodp writes "The WSJ reports that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos narrowly escaped calamity last week as a helicopter he was a passenger in crashed in west Texas. According to a preliminary FAA report, a pilot and three passengers were taking off from a remote site in mountainous terrain last Thursday when the helicopter's tailboom struck a tree, causing the aircraft to roll onto its side, partially submerging it in a creek. The passengers, who received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital, were reportedly evaluating real estate from the air for land purchase. Amazon declined to confirm Bezos's involvement in the crash, but a local Sheriff confirmed Bezos was among the passengers." Of course, this would have been big news if something had happened to Bezos, but as it is, it's not really much of a story.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Jeff Bezos land hunting in Texas?

Okay,I looked up Alpine. SO why or how is a city of 5000 building a new airport terminal, and why does UPS fly in and out twice a day? They also are dealing with an "affordable housing" issue, when , from ads at realtys in the area , housing is already dirt cheap. They have a new organization there representing Latin American workers. Nearby is a "Elite Retreat" of high priced housing sites. with te College nearby as well, my only questions are...Who else was on that helicopter? and does the Governer of Washington State know about this?

    Inaccuracies

The article states that the helicopter's tail rotor hit a tree, and that the aircraft then became partially submerged in a creek. The FAA report states that the helicopter crashed "under unknown circumstances" and then became submerged in a lake. Strange.
