Email Is More Important Than The Phone In Business
from the changing-times dept
I was recently having a discussion on the difference between "phone people" and "email people" when it comes to business dealings. While I realize there's a time and a place for both, I'm finding that I can get quite a lot done entirely over email - and I'm not the only one. A new study shows that people now rate email as the most important business communications tool over the phone. An astounding 80% of people surveyed prefered email to the phone, which sounds a bit high to me. 74% of respondents said losing their email would represent a bigger hardship than if they lost their phone service. People do switch to the phone, though, when it's important to have a personal connection with the person you are dealing with. Other random findings included that the popularity of faxing is dropping rapidly thanks to email, while the popularity of instant messaging in the office is growing rapidly.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
