Canadian Carrier Offers Innovative Calling Plan
It's often daunting for new cellular customers to choose a rate plan from their carrier. How can a cellular neophyte possibly choose among the calling plan options that each carrier offers? Anytime minutes, start your evenings early, free weekends, peak, and off-peak are all terms that mean nothing to people who’ve never paid a mobile bill (and not a lot to many who have!) Up in Canada, Rogers AT&T offer a solution to this problem for their customers. Rogers offers a “No Worries Starter Service” for three months where the new customer pays a flat rate, with no surprise “overage” costs. After the three months, Rogers evaluates the customer’s calling patterns, and recommends the most fitting package. This is a great idea for the customer because it reduces the risk of signing up for a year of a rate plan that has more minutes than the customer needs. But it works out for Rogers, too. Since the first three months of calling is “flat rate”, customers are likely to use their phone heavily during the first quarter, and that will lead the program to suggest a bigger calling plan at a higher price.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
