Ultra-Thin Screen A Step Towards Electronic Newspaper

from the send-beta-tests-here... dept

We've had stories about "electronic paper" and ultra-thin screens before, but this is the first time I've seen one including a photograph of the actual screen. This one is developed by E Ink, one of the two major players in the space. Of course, they've been good, historically, at generating hype - and less successful in finding a market for their technology. I'm hoping that will change, because I wouldn't mind having a rollup screen I can carry around with me.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Then you'll have to carry windex also

For all the times the screen gets splattered with coffee, urine, and liquishit. The disposability of newspapers remains a feat unable for high tech to duplicate.

How often do you get urine and liquishit on your newspapers?

Ever read the paper in a public bathroom, then put it on the floor when you had to stand up?
