Mobiles Live Up To Their Name In Ukrainian Throwing Competition
from the sounds-like-a-fun-time dept
Ah, now here's a good Friday time-waster story. It appears that it's "that time of the year" again, as people all over the Ukraine gear up for the annual mobile phone throwing competition. The question this year is whether or not anyone can break the world record of 55 meters. As for how the contest works, in the first round, you get to throw phones donated by sponsors. However, in the final round, everyone must throw a Samsung SGH-R200, to make sure it's a fair toss. It's amazing that this sort of competition hasn't caught on elsewhere.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

For example, how many pieces can you make the cellphone shatter into when thrown against a brick wall. Or, how fast can you make the annoying ring tone stop by stomping it into the ground.

Link not working...
Also, why does everyone keep insisting of saying "the Ukraine". The sentence is just fine with "people all over Ukraine...". We don't talk about people in "the France" insulting Americans or people in "the Iraq" shooting at Americans.
