Europe Working To Crack Down On Spam

Not all that surprising, but Europe is trying to pick up the pace in coming up with legal solutions to spam. It sounds like, in the rush, they've picked up some good ideas and some bad ones. In the good idea camp, they're adopting an "opt-in" requirement rather than "opt-out". However, they don't have any clear punishment rules laid out, and it sounds like the laws won't apply to people sending emails to business email accounts. Of course, since most spammers work underground anyway, it's unlikely to have much of an effect either way. About the only thing it's likely to reduce are silly newspaper interviews with people who openly admit that they're spammers.
