Amazon's Fake Blogger Now Real?

from the amazing-reappearance-act dept

This one is odd. Two weeks ago we had the story of how Amazon's employee "working at Amazon.com" blog was fake and was just a recruiting tool put together by Amazon's marketing department. They even quoted someone from Amazon saying: "Without going into whether the content is factually accurate or not, what I can tell you is that it was not an individual's personal blog. It was a recruiting message that we put in the form of a blog to experiment." Now, however, it looks like they may have been lying about that as well. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is now claiming that the mysterious Amazon blogger is real and even has his own personal blog. So, maybe I'm confused, but why would Amazon's spokesperson say that it wasn't a real blog, when it turned out it actually was? Under what circumstances would that be the better answer?

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Amazon's Fake Blogger Now Real?

Don't be confused. It's what I call 'doubleback psychology. Amazon finally says the blog is a fake (which it is). But we want to disbelieve big lying megacorporation-- which is what *Amazon* wants as well. Thus we will believe what they want us to believe. Hope that explains it. :)

Uh, I think you're still confused. The blog wasn't fake - what was fake was that that it was done by PR, or "directed by PR". It was essentially an innocent blog that Catbert used for evil HR purposes.

    Why not?

I don't see anything wrong with an Amazon real Blogger. It's about time that people express their views through such powerful worldwide Web.
