Telemarketing Industry Begins PR Campaign
from the boo-hoo-hoo dept
It appears the telemarketers are beginning the latest phase in their PR campaign against the "do not call list". They've gotten an article written up about a poor, unemployed, blind man who can no longer find work as a telemarketer. It's not as if the people who are in favor of the do not call list have no sympathy for people put out of work by the end of telemarketing (not that telemarketing is really going away). However, no one ever said that, just because this guy is blind, he should have the right to invade our homes.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

What about other Phone Help
Ofcourse this guy would have to find a company willing to set this all up for him (dis. act aside), but there are other phone jobs he might be able to get (and aren't offshore yet).

Our own first
If the States put barriers on trade like the Asian countries have then they wouldn't be selling squat in this country.

The fact that people can make money from an activity doesn't necessarily mean that legalizing the activity (such as using the phone to annoy people who don't want to be annoyed) is good public policy.
