The Return Of Rubik's Cube
from the too-dorky-to-describe dept
When I was a kid, I was one of millions who had a Rubik's cube, though, I never got all that good at it. I could solve it, but it would take a lot of time and a lot of trial and error. I thought that the fad had died, but apparently Rubik's cubes are making a comeback. They're even having a "speedcubing" contest for the first time in 21 years, and speedcubers from around the globe are gearing up - including buying up special Rubik's cubes and lubricating them (no, seriously) to make them faster. The reporter treats the subject respectfully for the most part, but can't help cracking a few jokes in the middle of the article, describing videos of speedcubers as "almost too dorky to describe" and then admitting: "A world-class speedcuber's skills are a wonder to behold, if you can suppress the urge to chuck an eraser at his head."Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Re: Three Minutes.
if you want to make it faster and improve your time then use silicone spray (the non-oil based ones)..
take apart all the pieces then spray 2 times on each cube (make sure you line them up so you just spray back and forth)..
i've tried vasaline before and it got faster but then i used silicone spray and it was really fast..
PS: don't use too much spray or it'll get worse.
