The five major US library associations have apparently teamed up to file a friend of the court brief in support of the P2P file sharing networks being sued by Hollywood. They're asking the court to uphold the earlier ruling stating that these networks were simply tools, and weren't doing anything specifically illegal themselves. The good thing about this is that these library associations certainly counter the entertainment industry's claims that these systems are only good for theft. From a PR standpoint, having the libraries back you is a good thing. The associations point out that they're not supporting file sharing, just that the networks themselves should not be considered illegal.

    They got it right. Yay !!! Just because a piece of software -> supports - an illegal use doesn't necessarily make the software manufacturer guilty of anything (other than creating a great technology/product in this case). It's the end-users actions which should be judged.

    Any US judge should 'get' this. If not, they probably are bought and paid for by someone in the RIAA or hollywood faction..

    How does the saying go ... 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people' ? . File sharing software doesn't share music, people share music.
