Intuit Apologizes For Product Activation

from the listening-to-customers---good-idea dept

We were just talking about how software companies were still focusing on product activation and along comes Intuit (who made plenty of customers angry earlier this year with their product activation system) publicly apologizing for using product activation, saying that they won't include it any more and, in fact, will change their licensing terms to let people install TurboTax on multiple computers. They had admitted the problems earlier this year, but it's cool to see them go even further and issue a public apology and adjust their licensing policies to make customers happier.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Turbo Tax

I'm glad they changed their policy. I switched to Tax Cut this year because of the Turbo Tax fiasco. I'll switch back next year because I found Turbo Tax to be much better. Will they have a Mac version? That is the question.

      Re: Turbo Tax

Same here. I didn't have a great experience with Tax Cut. It didn't flow nearly as well as Intuit's product, and there were some bugs in how the interface rendered in 1280x1024.

Turbo Tax, I accept your apology, and I will go back to being a loyal customer.

Now, if only the RIAA would do the same.
